Nash Community College Named 11th Best Community College in North Carolina by WalletHub
ROCKY MOUNT, North Carolina (August 14, 2025) – Nash Community College has been ranked the 11th Best Community College in North Carolina by WalletHub, a national personal finance website. The recognition is based on WalletHub’s analysis of more than 650 community colleges nationwide, using 18 key indicators of cost and quality.
WalletHub’s study measured factors such as in-state tuition and fees, student-faculty ratio, and graduation rates, aiming to identify institutions that provide the highest quality education at the most affordable cost.
“Being recognized as one of the top community colleges in the state reflects the incredible work of our faculty, staff and students,” said Dr. Lew K. Hunnicutt, president of NCC. “At Nash, we are committed to delivering an excellent, affordable education that empowers our students to achieve their goals without sacrificing quality for cost. This ranking affirms the life-changing impact our institution has on our community and beyond.”
Community colleges have long been a vital option for students seeking quality education without the financial burden often associated with four-year institutions. According to WalletHub, during the 2024–2025 academic year, tuition and fees for full-time, in-state enrollment at a public two-year college averaged $4,050 annually, compared to $11,610 at a public four-year institution and $43,350 at a four-year private school.
“Nash is a wonderful higher education institution for our community,” said Dr. Wendy Cook, vice president of student services at NCC. “Students can come here and leave with little to no debt to start new careers or transfer to a University.”
In addition to affordability, WalletHub noted that community colleges often offer more flexible scheduling, smaller class sizes, and rigorous coursework. These are the qualities that appeal to students balancing school with work and family responsibilities.
